A Warren County man reportedly shot in the head was actually suffering from head injuries sustained during a fight.

Warren County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a man shot in the head on the 500 block of Berryman Road Tuesday evening that later information determined to be a head injury he suffered from an earlier fight in the Clear Creek area of Bovina, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Following the fight between two adult males, a friend drove an injured 36-year-old male, who did not want to go to the hospital, to see an acquaintance on Berryman Road who then reported the incident as a possible shooting, he said.

He was transported by ambulance to Merit Health River Region Medical Center for his head injuries. Although initial reports were that he had a possible gunshot wound, the initial evaluation did not indicate he had been shot, Pace said. He was later sent to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for further evaluation.

Investigators will interview the other man involved in the fight Wednesday. No charges have been filed at this time.
