Local and other businesses from across the state will be in Vicksburg Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Vicksburg Convention Center for the Vicksburg Area Job Fair sponsored by the Vicksburg-Warren Chamber of Commerce and the Governor’s Job Fair Network.
“It will run from 9 (a.m.) to 2 (p.m.),” said Adam Todd, director of the Govenor’s Job Fair Network. “Last year, we had 700 people attend the fair and a significant number of job offers were handed out. We’re looking for the same results this year as well. This job fair is open to the public, so anyone is welcome to attend.”
Vicksburg has hosted a job fair for more than 10 years, and last year 50 businesses set up tables and booths to provide job information to employment seekers.
Todd said about 30 businesses have already signed up for the program, adding organizers again expect a total of 50 businesses to attend. “It always picks up as we get toward the last week-and-a-half before the fair,” he said.
He said anyone who wants to get an advantage applying for a job or seeking to brush up in their resume or interview skills can attend a program Monday, July 25 at the WIN Job Center, 1625 Monroe St., to help them get ready to meet with prospective employers. The program is sponsored by the WIN Job Center and Hinds Community College.
“This workshop will help people learn how to improve their interview skills and how to write or improve their resumes,” he said.
People interested in attending the workshop can call the job center at 601-638-1452.
Businesses wanting to participate can call the chamber office at 601-636-1012.
