Three of the four Porter’s Chapel teenagers injured in a Wednesday afternoon wreck on U.S. 61 South north of Walmart remained hospitalized at University of Mississippi Medical Center, where they are recovering from injuries received in the wreck.

Michael Brewer was listed in good condition, while Leon Simms remained in critical condition and Robi Riggin was in fair condition, a hospital spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said Brandon Brister, the fourth teen in the truck, has been discharged.

The four teens were returning from a funeral in Port Gibson and headed northbound on U.S. 61 South on the I-20 east/west entrance ramp when Brewer lost control of the truck because of the wet surface.

The truck left the road, went into the highway median and struck a magnolia tree.

The impact caused the pickup to wrap around the tree, later forcing police and firefighters to use two wreckers to pull the truck from around the tree so they could remove Brewer from the truck using the Jaws of Life.
