Police are continuing their investigation into the death of a construction worker who fell from the roof of the Vicksburg Convention Center Tuesday afternoon, deputy police chief Bobby Stewart said.

James Michael Pace, 28, of Pelahatchie, an employee of E. Cornell Malone Corp. of Jackson, died after falling from the roof about 12:55 p.m. Tuesday.

“We have sent the body to the state Crime Lab for examination,” said deputy Warren County coroner Ronald C. Regan, who pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Pace was part of a crew for Malone, which has the contract to replace the convention center roof. Convention center executive director Annette Kirklin said the workers were in the process of fixing some minor problems on the roof that were discussed at a project meeting last week.

Vicksburg police Lt. Troy Kimble said police were told Pace was working on the roof’s flashing when he fell. The section of the roof area on the building’s north side where Pace fell was marked with yellow crime scene tape, and police also cordoned off an area surrounding the north side of the building.
