Elsie Warren Seal, age 96, of Columbia, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, at her home.
Elsie was born Feb. 5, 1920, to Jessie and Jake Smith of Henleyfield and was the eighth of 10 children. She attended Pearl River Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi.
She became a first grade teacher and taught at Hub School in Marion County until retirement. Her life’s joy was teaching young children. Elsie taught children’s Sunday school for many years at First Baptist Church of Columbia. Her greatest commitment as she stated, “I was determined to serve the Lord.”
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; eight of her siblings; her first husband of 52 years, Eugene Warren; and her husband of nine years, William Otis Seal.
She is survived by three sons, Dr. Gene Warren and wife Wanda Hurt Warren of Vicksburg, Steven Warren and wife Lou Stokes Warren of McComb and Kenneth Warren and wife Elaine Wilson Warren of Starkville; a sister, Nell Lewis of Picayune; nine grandchildren, Dee Warren, Scott Warren, Genny Lindsey, William Warren, James Warren, Matt Warren, Shane Warren, Megan Busquets and Britt Warren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 323 Second St. Columbia, where friends may visit with family from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia.
The family would like to thank Sarah Bartlett, Paula Pylate and Amy Baughman who have been her caregivers for the past three years.
