Joseph Pearse McNamara

Joseph Pearse McNamara died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016.  He was 91 years old.

Born in Vicksburg, Joe was the son of the late FXL McNamara and Margaret Anderson McNamara. He attended St. Aloysius College and later graduated from Carr Central High School. Joe served in the Army-Air Corps from 1943 to 1945.  He was a 1947 graduate of the Dallas Mortuary School and was later employed by Fisher Funeral Home of Vicksburg.  He began his career with Spencer Chemical Company at its opening and went to on the work around the world as a chemical start up engineer retiring to Vicksburg in 1983. Joe was a communicant of St. Paul Catholic Church and a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 898, where he served in many capacities including Grand Knight.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Augusta Wilson McNamara of Vicksburg; son, Joseph LeRay McNamara (Cindy) of Jackson; and a daughter, Betty McMullen (Marshall) of Charleston, W.Va.

Joe has four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister, Martha “Lady” McNamara; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date at St. Paul Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vicksburg Catholic School, 1900 Grove Street, Vicksburg, MS 39183 and to St. Paul Catholic Church, 713 Crawford Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180.
