Eunice Ruth Ward Cox

Eunice Ruth Ward Cox passed away Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at the age of 93.
Born in Willow Springs, Mo., on May 1, 1923, she lived in Vicksburg most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Randall Cox; parents Thomas Jefferson Ward and Mary Anna Spitzig Ward; brothers Juanal Otis Ward, Samuel Francis Ward and Thomas Earl Ward; and sisters Mary Ellen Nelson, Mildred Lorton and Margaret Cox.
She is survived by her daughter Marsha Cox Gay and son-in-law Wallace Randall Gay, Vicksburg; her grandson Paul Gay and his wife Regina, and three great-grandchildren, Vincent Gay and Alessandra Gay, all of Easley, S.C.; and Jason Gay, Simpsonville, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cox worked for several years as a medical transcriptionist for the Street Clinic. She was an active member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she was a member of the choir and Christian Women’s Fellowship, Sunday School Superintendent, and an occasional pianist or organist. She wrote poetry and was an enthusiastic and faithful member of Explorers Bible Study. She also enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, and other handcrafts and puzzles. She also placed importance on physical fitness, winning second place in the Run Thru History 5K Walk in the 65-69 age group and later first place in the 70 and Over category.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at Glenwood Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Dr. Walter Frazier will officiate at the service, and pallbearers will be David Wood, Gary Dill, David Girard, Sam Gay, Mark Gay, David Cox and Grayson Rankin. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Susan Chiarito and elders and deacons of First Christian Church. The family would also like to thank her caregivers, the staff of Shady Lawn Nursing Home.
