St. Al softball ends losing streak

For the first time in 15 months, the St. Aloysius softball team left the field a winner.

Brooklyn Richards went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, Michelle Howington went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, and St. Al beat Park Place Christian 6-2 on Monday.

The Lady Flashes snapped a 19-game losing streak that dated back to the end of the 2015 spring season, when they were a member of the Mississippi High School Activities Association. They went 0-15 in the fall of 2015 after moving to the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools, and started this season 0-4.

Howington also pitched a complete game against Park Place. She allowed two runs on six hits and one walk, and struck out two.

Howington had an RBI single in the third inning, and then scored on a double by Richards to put St. Al ahead 3-2. It never trailed again.

Kala Goodlow delivered an RBI triple in the sixth inning. In the seventh, Howington had another RBI single and scored on another double by Richards to make it 6-2.
