Over the River Run
Registration is now open for the 28th annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run, race walk and fun run on the Old Mississippi River Bridge. This year’s race is scheduled for Oct. 8 at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $25 per person, or $15 for children ages 10 and under. There is also a $75 family rate for up to five immediate family members living at the same address, and a $100 rate for 3-5 person corporate teams.
The Over the River Run benefits the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation. Entry forms are available at the SCHF office, at 1302 Adams Street, or Hobie’s Outdoor Sports. Online registration and more information is available at southernculture.org/events/otrr.htm.
Clear Creek Ladies report
On Wednesday, the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association hosted its September Retirees Scramble. First place went to the team of Judy McKnight, Wayne Scott, Davey Simmons and Don Watt. Second place went to Eddie Fowler, Chris Miller, Mark Posey and Jimmy Stabler. The team of Bill Boots, Pete Johnson and Tom Tinney placed third.
Judy McKnight and Bob Walters made the longest drives. Closest-To-Pin awards went to Joyce Johnson, Pete Johnson, Judy McKnight and Davey Simmons. Chip-Ins were made by Larry Cook, Mike Coomes, Eddie Fowler, Brad Heisler, Pete Johnson, Frank McGowan, Davey Simmons and Tom Tinney.
Fall baseball registration
Registration is now open for the City of Vicksburg’s youth fall baseball league. The cost is $25 per player, and registration is open until Sept. 12. Registration forms can be picked up at the Parks and Recreation Department office at 100 Army Navy Drive, and Hobie’s Sports. Coaches are also needed. For more information, call 601-634-4514.
Adult softball league
Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s adult co-ed softball league is open and until Sept. 16. The cost is $175 per team, with an extra fee of $10 for each player from Warren County who lives outside the city limits and $20 for each player from Sharkey, Claiborne and Issaquena counties. Registration forms are available at the Parks and Recreation office at 100 Army Navy Drive.
City tennis sessions
The City of Vicksburg’s tennis program will conduct a free youth clinic and practice sessions during the fall. Sessions are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Halls Ferry Park courts. There is no charge to participate. For more information, call 601-618-4757.
USM baseball camps
The Southern Miss baseball program will host its Hitting Under the Lights Camp beginning Sept. 26. The camp for high school player runs for four consecutive Mondays, from 6 to 8 p.m. each night. The cost is $150 per camper. For more information, go online to to SouthernMissBaseballCamps.com.
