VHS archery tryouts
Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s archery team will be held Wednesday, Oct. 11 and 12, at the ROTC building. All archers must have a physical and parental permission form in order to try out.

Over the River Run
Registration is now open for the 28th annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run, race walk and fun run on the Old Mississippi River Bridge. This year’s race is scheduled for Oct. 8 at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $25 per person, or $15 for children ages 10 and under. There is also a $75 family rate for up to five immediate family members living at the same address, and a $100 rate for 3-5 person corporate teams.
The Over the River Run benefits the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation. Entry forms are available at the SCHF office, at 1302 Adams Street, or Hobie’s Outdoor Sports. Online registration and more information is available at southernculture.org/events/otrr.htm.
Hinds golf tournament
The Warren-Claiborne Chapter of the Hinds Community College Alumni Association will host the Clyde Donnell and Othel Mendrop Memorial Golf Tournament Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Clear Creek Golf Course.
The tournament is a four-person scramble and begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. A hamburger cookout and prize ceremony will follow the round. Flight winners will receive gift certificates to the Clear Creek Pro Shop, and there will also be bonus prizes for closest to the hole and longest drive.

City tennis sessions
The City of Vicksburg’s tennis program will conduct a free youth clinic and practice sessions during the fall. Sessions are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The clinic is for children ages 5 to 18, and there is no charge to participate. EMCC softball camps
East Mississippi Community College will host a two-day fast-pitch softball clinic Oct. 22 and 23 on its campus in Scooba. The first day of the camp will focus on hitting, and the second day on defense. Both camps will run from 10 a.m. to noon for the 10U-14U group, and from 1-3 p.m. for the 16U-18U age group.
The registration fee is $35 for one camp or $60 for both before Oct. 14, or $50 and $75 after that date.
