“That’s based on the political climate, and to be considered as a moderate city speaks volumes for our city,” Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said. “We’re beyond traditional politics. What we try to do is what’s best for the community and that’s what I like about Vicksburg. Anything positive for the city is good, but to be recognized as being in the top 10 and being from Mississippi, I’m real proud of it.”

According to information from Livability.com, the rankings were determined by using geographic and ideological information combined with information on congressional representation of a city, and looked how each city self-reported its political leaning. It also used the split in the vote during the 2012 presidential election.

The editor of Livability.com says, “Politics is one those things we all hear about, but never really consider when choosing a new place to live,” said Christopher Pilny, Livability.com editor. “Yet, it’s as important as affordability, the quality of schools, walkability, and other traditional measures of a community’s livability…we tend to surround ourselves with people who think like us.”
