Senior Prep League
BWS 21, Vicksburg Intermediate 0 – Deonta Degrest rushed for three touchdowns, covering 2, 35 and 80 yards, in BWS’ win over Vicksburg Intermediate.
Bowmar 28, Redwood 7 – Four different players scored for Bowmar in its win over Redwood. Devin Thigpen had a 26-yard touchdown run, Cade Fairley a 20-yard run, Marcus Randle a 2-yard run, and Caeron Wallace a 28-yard run. Lawrence Kirkley Jr. had a 2-yard run for Redwood’s only touchdown.
Clear Creek Ladies report
On Wednesday the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association hosted its final retiree scramble of the season.
Lynne Brush, Lee Eaton, Eddie Roberson and Wayne Scott comprised the winning team. The second place team included Joyce Johnson, Dan Hall, Richard Taylor and Bob Walters. The team of Carol Roberson, Eddie Fowler, Brad Heisler and Don Watt finished third. Carol Roberson and Rodney McHann hit the longest drives.
Closest-to-pin awards went to Charlotte Crist, Linda McHann, Doug Watt and Bob Walters. Lee Eaton and Durwood Tadlock made chip-ins.
Hinds golf tournament
The Warren-Claiborne Chapter of the Hinds Community College Alumni Association will host the Clyde Donnell and Othel Mendrop Memorial Golf Tournament Oct. 19, at Clear Creek Golf Course. The tournament is a four-person scramble and begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
The entry fee is $75 per player. Team and hole sponsorships are also available. To register, call Hinds alumni coordinator Libby Posey at 601-857-3350.
VHS archery tryouts
Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s archery team will be held Oct. 11 and 12, at the ROTC building. All archers must have a physical and parental permission form in order to try out. For info, email Pamela Piazza at pamela.piazza@vwsd.org.
O’neal tennis tournament
The Beverly O’Neal Tennis Mixer is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 13, at the Halls Ferry Park tennis courts. The event helps provide a scholarship for one local high school senior.
On Sunday, Oct. 16, the courts will host the United Way Breast Cancer Benefit.
Both events begin at 1 p.m., and donations are welcome. Food will be served. For information on either event, call Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.
EMCC softball camps
East Mississippi Community College will host a two-day fast-pitch softball clinic Oct. 22 and 23 on its campus in Scooba. The first day of the camp will focus on hitting, and the second day on defense. Both camps will run from 10 a.m. to noon for the 10U-14U group, and 1-3 p.m. for the 16U-18U age group.
