Warren Central gave it a go, but in the end still did not have an answer for Madison Central.
Madison Central cruised to lopsided wins in the first and third sets, and beat Warren Central 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-8) in the first round of the MHSAA Class III volleyball playoffs on Tuesday night.
Taylor Smith had five aces to lead Warren Central’s servers, and added seven assists. Emily Vandennieuboer had four kills on 15 attacks.
Madison Central (23-11) won for the 10th consecutive time against Warren Central (12-10) and advanced to face two-time defending state champion Desoto Central in the second round.
Warren Central finished with a winning record for the first time in the program’s six-year history, and reached the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
“The coaches are proud of the squad this season, and thankful to the seniors,” Lady Vikes coach Matt Gullett said. “They’re a great example of heart, hustle and determination. We’re returning a lot of experienced players next year and some quality leadership.”
