3-year-old struck by vehicle, survives

A child was injured Sunday when he was struck by a car after running into U.S. 80 near Ironwood Drive, Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Henry said,

He said the 3-year-old child was taken to Merit Health River Region Medical Center, where he was later released.

The incident occurred about 1 p.m. Sunday. A Chevrolet Camaro was traveling east on U.S. 80 when the child ran into the road trying to get a ball that rolled into the highway.

The driver was not injured and will face no charges, Henry said.
