A Vicksburg woman is missing from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ mat sinking unit.

Vicksburg District spokesman Greg Raimondo said Larrielles Ross, 20, an employee in the quarters barge galley, was last seen about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and reported missing when she was not found on the barge about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

He said authorities with the Corps’ Vicksburg District, the U.S. Coast Guard and the St. Charles Parish, La., Sheriff’s Office are searching for Ross.

“We don’t know if she fell off the barge or walked off on her own,” he said. “Once she was reported missing, we notified the St. Charles Parish Sheriff and the Coast Guard.”

He said Ross’ parents, who live in the Kings community, were notified and drove to Louisiana, where they talked with St. Charles Parish officials.

The quarters barge is the home for the mat sinking unit’s workers when the unit is working on the river. It was moored in St. Charles Parish near the Bonne Carre Spillway, Raimondo said. The spillway is west of New Orleans.

He said the Coast Guard is responsible for the river search and the sheriff’s office is heading the investigation St. Charles Parish.

“We have different assets and equipment we have offered to make available to the sheriff’s office if they are needed,” Raimondo said.
