Local churches, organizations and shelters provide for those in need this holiday season

Next week, many of us will spend time with family, share a meal and experience a day to truly be thankful.
But that will not be the case for everyone.
Some simply cannot afford to visit family, while others do not have the means to provide a Thanksgiving meal for their family. And sadly, some might not be able to find things for which they are thankful.
During this time of year, we see organizations host canned food drives, charity dinners and fundraisers.
Sadly though, the need we see in our community does not exist just in November and December. The need is year-round.
That is where the beauty and strength of the Vicksburg community truly shines.
We have churches host regular medical and dental clinics.
We have women and children shelters serving those in emergency situations. And, we have those working to provide a warm meal when nothing else is available.
When disaster has struck, organizations have provided clothing, housing and comfort.
And, there are organizations working to battle social ills like alcoholism and drug abuse.
The Vicksburg and Warren County community has long been known for its caring and support for those who have been and are in need.
We are thankful for those caring souls and giving individuals who have stepped up when needed and for those who have contributed greatly to those organizations helping others.
Plenty of challenges remain in our community, but there is a lot to be thankful for today — primarily thankful for those who care so much, who give so much.
