Part of I-20 to close for 2 hours early Sunday for power line work

A section of Interstate 20 between the Natchez Trace Parkway and Norrell Road in Clinton will be closed between 7 and 9 a.m. Sunday to allow Entergy Mississippi to pull utility lines across the highway, Entergy Mississippi spokesperson Shelia McKinnis said.

“This is part of the Madison-Hinds transmission project,” she said. “We are constructing a new 25-mile 230-kilovolt transmission line from Bozeman Road in Madison County to the 230-kilovolt line northwest of the Clinton area.

“In order for Entergy to complete necessary utility work, I-20 between the Natchez Trace Parkway and Norrell Road will temporarily close between 7 and 9 a.m. Sunday,” she said. “The Clinton Police Department will be on the scene handling traffic control.”

The project will close both directions of I-20 between the Natchez Trace Parkway and Norrell Road exits, she said, adding the work will take place in 15-minute intervals during the work.

“Local traffic should consider an alternate route during the closure,” she said.  McKinnis said the project is designed to enhance economic development in Madison and Hinds counties and is being driven by increased load growth in south Madison County, including growth at the Nissan facility and expected growth at the Madison Megasite, and at the Continental Tire site in Hinds County. “The project also is needed to meet residential, commercial and industrial load growth in south Madison County and to ensure compliance with mandatory federal reliability requirements for the continued delivery of reliable electric service to our customers. The project is in the very early stages with an in-service date of summer 2018.”
