Gratitude: We have much for which to be thankful

As we gather this Thanksgiving Day over turkey and pumpkin pie and spend time with family, we take a look back at the year for which we have plenty to be thankful.
Over the past year, we have shared many interesting stories that have made top headlines, but would be considered far from those in which we would be thankful.
We have published stories about tragedy and violence, but an underlying tone to our coverage exists that has been far more hopeful.
Just this week, we continued our Tuesday series highlighting local teachers. These have been wonderful stories to tell and share.
These stories prove the quality of educators we have in the Vicksburg-Warren School District, Porters Chapel and Vicksburg Catholic Schools.
And, in Monday’s edition we shared a story of how the Bovina Parent Teacher Organization organized a celebration for Bovina students to honor the school’s state accountability rating.
Even stories, such as Monday’s story on the mobile planetarium brought in and shared with students at St. Francis Xavier showcased the teaching methods and extremes our educators go to enhance the learning experience for our children.
On a lighter note, we published Thursday hundreds of “recipes” from area third graders on how they would prepare turkeys for Thanksgiving dinner.
We could go on and on, and the hundreds of education and school-related stories we’ve published show that we do go on and on, but what all of this coverage shows is Vicksburg and Warren County should be tremendously thankful for the systems in place, the teachers in place and the plans in development to ensure our future is bright, that our children are given every opportunity to learn and succeed.
In addition to the amazing Leader in Me program that continues to grow in the VWSD, we now have the Ford Next Generation Learning program under development, which should provide even more excitement in our schools.
Vicksburg and Warren County have much in which to be proud, but with the work our education leaders, we might need to not only be thankful, but tremendously hopeful.
