Vicksburg Main Street’s postponing of Christmas parade was a good call

The Vicksburg Main Street board of directors earlier this week made a good call in postponing the Downtown Christmas Parade of Lights until Dec. 10.
The parade had been scheduled for tonight, when an 80 percent chance of a cold, hard rain is forecast to begin this afternoon and continue into tonight and tomorrow.
Perhaps those of us who simply show up and enjoy the parade don’t realize the incredible amount of work for so many that goes into making our annual Christmas parade happen.
Postponing the parade in hope of making it a more enjoyable evening downtown for all of us was the right decision. We appreciate the work of Vicksburg’s Main Street program and those who lead it.
However, don’t forget, despite the threat of rain, we still have much to do today and tomorrow in Vicksburg.
The eighth annual Holly Days Arts and Crafts Show is today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center, 1204 Main St. The event will feature a variety of vendors from the city and state showcasing their talents. For more information, visit southernculture.org.
PAWS Rescue plans a garage sale at PetSense Vicksburg today from 7 a.m. until noon. Photographs with Santa and face painting will begin at 10 a.m. All money raised at the garage sale is used to rehabilitate, spay/neuter and adopt out homeless dogs and cats to loving homes in Vicksburg and Warren County.
And, the 12th annual V105.5 Caroling Contest begins tonight at 7 p.m. at the Vicksburg Convention Center, 1600 Mulberry St.
Let’s all look forward to a wonderful weekend on Dec. 10, and send up good thoughts for a beautiful, dry evening for our Downtown Christmas Parade of Lights!
