JV basketball report
(G) Vicksburg 48, Pearl 28 – Yakia Burns had 22 points, 11 rebounds and three assists as Vicksburg Junior High’s eighth-grade girls basketball team beat Pearl. Destini Sims added 14 points and Marquasia Smith scored 10 off the bench. Brandi Dillon had six blocks and 14 rebounds.
(B) Pearl 47, Vicksburg 44 – Levi Wyatt scored 20 points, but it wasn’t enough for Vicksburg’s eighth-grade boys team in a loss to Pearl. Keshun Brown added eight points and five rebounds for the Gators, while Taylon Smith and Jaden Williams scored six points apiece.
Adult basketball league
Registration for the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department’s men’s and women’s adult basketball leagues will continue through Dec. 30. The registration fee is $125 per team, plus an extra $5 fee for each non-city resident. The total team fee will not exceed $175.
Registration packets can be picked up at either the Parks and Recreation office at 100 Army-Navy Drive or at the Jackson Street Community Center. A mandatory coaches meeting will be held Dec. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation offices. For more information call 601-634-4514.
Chill in the Hills 10K
The ninth annual Chill in the Hills 10K run and 5K race walk is scheduled for Jan. 14 in downtown Vicksburg.
The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Guaranty Bank on the corner of Cherry and Belmont Streets. Raceday registration and packet pickup will also take place at Guaranty Bank before the race on Jan. 14 and the evening of Jan. 13.
The registration fee is $25 for the 10K or 5K, and $15 for the children’s 1-mile fun run. Registration is available at active.com, and for more information visit gracechristiancounselingcenter.com/fundraiser or call 601-636-5703.
The Chill in the Hills 10K is a fundraiser for Grace Christian Counseling Center.
City tennis sessions
The City of Vicksburg’s tennis program will conduct a free youth clinic and practice sessions during the fall. Sessions are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The clinic is for children ages 5 to 18, and there is no charge to participate. Jingle Bell Half Marathon
The Jingle Bell Half Marathon and 5K is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17 in Monroe, La. The half-marathon will begin at 8 a.m. near the River Market and wind through downtown Monroe. The 5K race will begin at 8:30 a.m.
The registration fee for the half-marathon is $85 through Dec. 15, and $95 on race day. The fee for the 5K is $30 through Dec. 15, and $35 on race day.
Proceeds from the race benefit the Louisiana Purchase Council of the Boy Scouts of America. For more information, or to register, visit apexendurance.com.
