Charles C. “Manny Boy” Kette Jr. died Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at the Promise Hospital of Vicksburg. He was 90.
Charles was born in Vicksburg, April 6, 1926, to Charles Christian Sr. and Theresa F. Kette. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jean A. Kette and his sister, Mary Ann Piazza.
A graduate of St. Aloysius High School, he continued his education and received his degree in pharmacy from the University of Mississippi, following in his father’s profession.
He was owner and operator of Clay Street Drugs for over 50 years. His family was most important to him, and he was also an avid hunter and fisherman in his free time.
Charles was a lifelong member of St. Paul Catholic Church and was a member of several civic organizations in Vicksburg.
He is survived by his daughter, Helen Catherine “Katie” Marcus (Steven) of Vicksburg; his four sons, Charles C. Kette III of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Richard Kette (Debra) of Vicksburg, David Kette (Nancy) of Reno, Nev., and George Kette (Denise) of Ridgeland; six grandchildren, Brandy Stavely (Gary), Don Kette Marcus, Sara Catherine Marcus, Erin Kette, Mollie Van Bragt (Joey), and Bethany Kette; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Kate Stavely and Kette Stavely.
A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Lalor officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at St. Paul Catholic Church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be Eustace Conway III, Bob Piazza, Clyde McKenzie, Steve Butler, Don Marcus and Joe Lorinc.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Loviza, David Speyerer, David Vanderberry and David Hoseman.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Edney, Dr. Morris and Dr. Whitaker for all their care and support. Also the family would like to thank his caregivers, Tammy Hatchett, Donna Jones and Joyce Johnson for all their loving care, and also thanks to special friends, Darlene and Joe Lorinc.
