What’s in a frame?

Valuable pictures, art pieces, flags, diplomas, article clippings and so much more to the person who owns the memories behind the glass.

After 30 years of business, local shop Neblett’s Frame Outlet underwent a change Nov. 1, when owner Carolyn Boyd sold the store to Vicksburg couple Staten and Sara Busby.

“Nebletts has been a big part of Vicksburg for so long,” Staten said of the Nebletts’ established history and known name in the Vicksburg community. Boyd sold the store because she was ready to retire, he said.

Staten worked at Nebletts for four years before becoming the owner and said customers will continue to see his familiar face when they enter the shop. He isn’t changing much at all about the store and will continue to offer picture frames, custom framing, shadowboxes and more.

“You name it, we frame it. We do a lot of specially items mainly,” Staten said.

“Nothing has really changed. It’s still the same feel and vibe Nebletts has always provided. We will start getting newer stock molding (frames) in, newer knickknacks and gifts for customers.”

He is excited to be his own boss and said he has always wanted to own a business. It just took a little time to figure out what kind. This store gives Staten the freedom to be creative, work with his hands and the public while also managing sales.

“It’s been a dream to own my own business. I just never knew what it was until I started working here. It’s a great artistic outlet. It’s really fun,” Staten said.

The job may seem repetitive, but isn’t, he said, because he is framing multiple items of diverse size and value each day.

“It’s always new obstacles and new challenges,” Staten said.

Over the years, he said Boyd’s sister expanded the store to other locations across Mississippi like in the Jackson area and Hattiesburg. The Vicksburg store will now be known as The Gilded Frame, Staten said, because the Nebletts name was bought by another location.

The Gilded Frame is located at 1410 Clay St. and is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
