Walter Henry Gibbes Jr.

Walter Henry Gibbes Jr. died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, as a result of complications from a heart attack he suffered last Friday.
He was born in Jackson on May 25, 1947, and had lived in Learned since he was 3 years old. He graduated from Raymond High School in 1965. He attended Hinds Junior College and graduated from the University of Mississippi.
Over his life, Chip engaged in various interests and occupations including cattle farming, logging, and real estate investing. His latest project over the last seven years had been expanding H.D. Gibbes and Sons in Learned into a destination for great steaks.
His parents, Walter and Henrietta Anne Taylor, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of exactly 46 years, Mary Bell Bobb Gibbes.
He is also survived by his son, Walter Henry III and wife Susan Feldman Gibbes; his daughter, Taylor Gibbes Turnage and her husband Matthew Turnage; grandchildren, Walter Henry Gibbes IV, David Kirkfield Gibbes, Cecelia Ann Turnage and William Arnold Turnage; his sister and brother-in-law, Annette Gibbes Rayburn and her husband Bobby; and his nephews, Mark and Mike Daher.
Services will be Friday, Dec. 23.
A brief visitation will begin at 11a.m. at Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Learned, with the funeral service beginning at noon, with a graveside service immediately following at the old Lebanon Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
A visitation will be held after the burial at H.D. Gibbes and Sons in Learned. Jones Family Funeral Services of McComb has charge of arrangements.
Honorary pallbearers are the Raymond High School class of 1965 and their spouses.
