Hilda Murphy Williams

LORMAN — Hilda Murphy Williams of Lorman died Dec. 16, 2016. She was 95.

Williams was born Dec. 25, 1920, in Jefferson County to Ernest and Willie Mae Murphy.

Williams was a faithful member of Morning Star M.B. Church until she moved to Gary, Ind., where she worked in nutrition in the Gary school system. Upon moving back to Mississippi, she rejoined Morning Star M.B. Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gloster Williams Sr.; son, Ernest Williams; adopted daughter, Ruth Williams; siblings, Ernest Murphy Jr., Albert Murphy and Evelyn Murphy.

She is survived by a  son, Gloster Williams Jr. of Detroit; foster daughters raised as her own, Dorothy (Jackie) Dotson of Port Gibson, Yvonne Johnson and Teresa Johnson, both of Chicago; sister, Freddie Johnson of Natchez; sisters-in-law, Mary Murphy of Atlanta and Lucy Murphy of Gary; god sisters, Linda F. Davis of Lorman and Pamela R. Cook of Indianapolis; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will be at McCay Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
