Chill in the Hills 10K

The ninth annual Chill in the Hills 10K run and 5K race walk is scheduled for Jan. 14 in downtown Vicksburg.

The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Guaranty Bank on the corner of Cherry and Belmont Streets. Raceday registration and packet pickup will also take place at Guaranty Bank before the race on Jan. 14 and the evening of Jan. 13.

The Chill in the Hills 10K is a fundraiser for Grace Christian Counseling Center.

WC track tryouts

Tryouts for Warren Central’s varsity boys and girls, and ninth-grade boys and girls’ track teams will be held Jan. 11 and 12 at Viking Stadium, at 4 p.m. each day. Athletes must have proper workout gear and a current physical.

Hinds baseball camp

Hinds Community College will host its Winter Baseball Showcase on Jan. 21 at Joe G. Moss Field in Raymond. The camp is for players in grades 9-12, and on-site registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the showcase at 12:30 p.m. The cost of the showcase is $75 per player.

The showcase will consist of a pro-style workout and an instructional period. All players must bring cleats, turf shoes, a bat and batting gloves.

Adult basketball league

Registration for the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department’s men’s and women’s adult basketball leagues will continue through Dec. 30. The registration fee is $125 per team, plus an extra $5 fee for each non-city resident. The total team fee will not exceed $175.

Registration packets can be picked up at either the Parks and Recreation office at 100 Army-Navy Drive or at the Jackson Street Community Center. A mandatory coaches meeting will be held Dec. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation offices.

MSU baseball coaches clinic

Mississippi State’s baseball program will host its annual free baseball coaching clinic on Jan. 27 on the Starkville campus.

Registration will run from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. in the Palmeiro Center adjacent to Dudy Noble Field, and the clinic will finish at 2 p.m. with MSU team practice to follow.

Interested coaches must e-mail April Edwards at aedwards@athletics.msstate.edu, letting her know what school you represent, along with the names of the coaches who will be in attendance.
