A person was injured on a city road Wednesday when they exited a moving vehicle.

At 11:30 a.m. Wednesday police responded to a reported pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Warrenton Road near the I-20 East exit ramp, Lt. Troy Kimble said.

“Witnesses stated they thought it was a pedestrian. We got multiple calls on that,” he said.

When first responders arrived on the scene it was discovered a passenger, with a history of mental illness, jumped from the backseat of a moving vehicle, Kimble said.

Neither the vehicle the person jumped from, nor any other motorists struck the person, he said, and the person was taken for mental and medical evaluation.
