UTICA — Lisa Michele Duncan died Tuesday Jan. 10, 2017, in Mobile, Ala. She was 22 years old.

Lisa lived in Mobile all of her life. Although she was handicapped and mentally challenged, she graduated from high school.

She loved people and attended church almost every Sunday. She loved to go shopping with her friend, Jewel Ficner, who would always stop at Lisa’s favorite place to eat on the way home, “The Waffle House.”

Rose Scarbrough, whom she loved very much, was Lisa’s caretaker for most of her life.

Lisa was preceded in death by her mother, Valerie Jo Ann Duncan, who died Feb. 22, 2010.

Lisa taught us all to be grateful for what we have and to love people. She was grateful for everything. We all have lost a shining star.

She is survived by her grandfather, who loved and visited Lisa often, Freddie Duncan of Richland; and her great-aunt, Cheryl Jones.

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, from noon to 2 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica, with services at 2 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Jack DeMoney officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Learned.

Pallbearers will be Raymond E. McDaniel, Noah McDaniel, Thomas E. McDaniel, Garrett McDaniel, Marty Parker and James Link.
