JV basketball roundup

(B) Central Hinds 50, St. Aloysius 45 – Ranson Oakes scored 19 points and Bubba Barton added eight as Central Hinds beat St. Aloysius in a junior varsity boys’ game Tuesday.
Nicholaus Council led St. Al with 27 points. Wes Warnock and Parker Brown scored six points each.

(G) Central Hinds 38, St. Aloysius 9 – Anna Kate Shaw, Kendall Lauderdale and Perri Durr scored six points apiece as Central Hinds beat St. Al. Madelyn Polk led St. Al with four points.

Scorekeepers, umps needed

Scorekeepers and Umpires are needed for the City of Vicksburg’s upcoming youth and adult softball and baseball seasons. Employment forms can be picked up at the Parks and Recreation office at 100 Army-Navy Drive. For more information, call Joseph Graves at 601-634-4514.

Alcorn volleyball clinic

Alcorn State University will host a volleyball skills camp Jan. 21 and 22 at the Whitney Complex on the Lorman campus. The camp is for players in grades 3-12, and will be broken up into three age groups. On Jan. 21, players in grades 3-6 will have their camp from 8:30 to 11 a.m., and players in grades 4-7 will go from noon to 3 p.m.

On Jan. 22, players in grades 9-12 will have their camp from 9 a.m. to noon.

Kings basketball league

Registration for the Kings Empowerment Center’s 5-on-5 basketball league will continue through Jan. 27. There are three age divisions for the male basketball league — grades 6-7, grades 8-9 and grades 10-12.

The registration fee is $150 per team. The season begins Feb. 4 and continues through April 1, with a league tournament on April 8. Games are played on Saturdays.

Hinds baseball camp

Hinds Community College will host its Winter Baseball Showcase on Jan. 21 at Joe G. Moss Field in Raymond. The camp is for players in grades 9-12. On-site registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the showcase at 12:30 p.m.

The cost of the showcase is $75 per player, and only on-site registration is available. No advance payment will be accepted.

The showcase will consist of a pro-style workout and an instructional period. All players must bring cleats, turf shoes, a bat and batting gloves.
