Students at Warren Central Junior High School were evacuated from the school briefly Tuesday morning as police did a precautionary sweep of the building.

“Earlier (Tuesday) a very brave student found a message that was concerning to them, and concerned about the safety of the people in the building, brought it to the administrators of the building,” said Christi Kilroy, Vicksburg Warren School District communication director. “The administrators took a look at it and decided for the safety of everyone it would be best to evacuate the students.”

About 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, the call for an evacuation was made and students were able to return to class by 10:30 a.m. after the building was determined to be clear.

“We called our SRO (school resource officer) in and did a walk through and inspection of the building, determined everything to be OK and they let the students back in,” Kilroy said.

Kilroy could not confirm if the message was on social media or if the message came from a student, and said the incident was still under investigation by the Vicksburg Police Department. Emergency Management was also on scene working with the police department and the school’s safety resource officers.

“We’re thankful for our partners in the community that work with us to make sure our students are safe,” Kilroy said.
