One person has been questioned and released as police search for a second suspect in connection with a Saturday night shoplifting incident at a Vicksburg department store.

A misdemeanor warrant for shoplifting has been issued for Correlle Day, 25, of Greenville but believed to be staying in Vicksburg, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

“Day is seen in the video surveillance with the stolen merchandise,” Williams said.

At 8 p.m. Saturday, two women entered the Dillard’s in the Vicksburg Mall, Williams said. Moments later, one of the females, identifies as Day, left the store without paying for a comforter set and a blanket, both valued at $277.

Williams said a Vicksburg Police Department officer, who was working part-time as a security officer at the store, approached Day and asked her to return to the store. Once inside, the suspect sprayed the officer with pepper spray and was able to get away. The merchandise was recovered, Williams said.

Both women implicated on the security footage were identified through Crime Stoppers.

“Crime Stoppers received numerous tips regarding the suspects’ identity,” Williams said.

One of the women turned herself in at the Vicksburg Police Department after seeing her picture in the media. She has been released by police without any charges.

Anyone with information about Day is encouraged to call Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477. Callers to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous.
