Run Thru History

Registration is now open for the 38th annual Run Thru History, a 10-kilometer run, 5-kilomter race walk and 1-mile fun run in the Vicksburg National Military Park. The race will take place on March 4, beginning at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $25 for the 10K and 5K, and the 1-mile fun run is free. The first 800 people registered are guaranteed a race shirt.

Softball umpires meeting

The Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department will hold its annual ASA umpires meeting on March 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Rec office at 100 Army Navy Drive. The meeting is mandatory for all umpires planning to work in the VGSA youth fast-pitch and adult slow-pitch softball leagues this season.

In addition, scorekeepers and umpires are needed for the upcoming softball and baseball seasons. Employment forms can be picked up at the Parks and Recreation office at 100 Army-Navy Drive. For more information, call Joseph Graves at 601-634-4514.

Clear Creek Ladies kickoff

The Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association will hold its 2017 season kickoff and registration on Feb. 18 at the Clear Creek Golf Course clubhouse. Registration begins at 10 a.m., and the group is open to women golfers of all skill levels. The group will play a round of golf following registration. Polk at PCA fundraiser

Former Mississippi State baseball coach Ron Polk will be the featured speaker at a fundraiser for Porters Chapel Academy on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. in the school’s gym.

Tickets are $30, and available at the Porters Chapel Academy office, at 3460 Porters Chapel Road, during business hours. All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit Porters Chapel Academy athletics.

Zeke West bass tournament

The Ninth Annual Zeke West Memorial Scholarship bass fishing tournament is scheduled for March 4 at Lake Bruin.

The registration fee is $100 per boat, with an optional big bass entry fee of $10 per person. First place is guaranteed a $1,500 prize, and additional prizes will be paid for second through fifth places based on the number of entries.

Red Carpet scholarships

Applications are now being accepted at Warren Central, Vicksburg High School, St. Aloysius and Porters Chapel Academy for the annual Red Carpet Bowl scholarship awards. Applications are available at each school’s office. The scholarships are given to one senior at each of Warren County’s four high schools, and both athletes and non-athletes are eligible.
