A Byram man wanted for burglaries in Warren and Issaquena counties was arrested Friday afternoon in rural Hinds County, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.
He said Peter Van Pope, 32, 5721 Terry Road, Byram, was being held without bail in the Warren County Jail pending an initial appearance Monday in Justice Court. He said Issaquena authorities have placed a hold on Pope.
Pace said Pope is wanted in connection with two burglaries in the Eagle Lake community and for burglaries in Issaquena County. He said Pope had been camping out in wooded areas of northern Warren County and southern Issaquena County, and managed to get a ride to Hinds County, where he was arrested about 2 p.m. Friday.
“We had identified him and were looking for him,” Pace said. “We received word he was in a wooded area of some property between Casey Road and the Natchez Trace Parkway north of Utica.”
He said Hinds County and Warren County authorities went to the property and searched for Pope, finding him at a creek bed on the property. He was taken into custody without incident, Pace said.
