Two Vicksburg teens, one out on bond on a previous assault charge, will face multiple charges in the Tuesday drive-by shooting of another teenager at the intersection of Bowmar Avenue and Drummond Street, Capt. Sandra Williams said.
She said Lamarien Harper, 16, and Darion Turner, 15, turned themselves in at the Vicksburg Police Department Tuesday morning. They were being held without bail at the Issaquena County Corrections Facility pending an initial appearance Friday in Municipal Court. Both will be tried as adults.
Each teen is charged with aggravated assault and drive-by shooting in the Tuesday afternoon shooting of a 16-year-old as he was walking at the intersection of Bowmar and Drummond. Another teenager walking with the victim was not wounded.
The shooting occurred about 4 p.m. Tuesday. The wounded teen was taken to Merit Health River Region and later transferred to University of Mississippi Medical Center. His condition was unavailable. The shooting remains under investigation.
Harper, she said, was out on bond for a previous shooting. Warren County District Attorney Ricky Smith said he was notified of Harper’s arrest.
“We are preparing a motion to have his bond revoked and for him to remain in jail without bond until this case is resolved,” Smith said.
At the time of the shooting, Harper was out on $25,000 bond on an aggravated assault that occurred Feb. 11, when he shot another 16-year-old during a fight that resulted from an argument between Harper an the victim’s mother over items she claimed Harper stole from her house. During the fight with the other teen, Harper pulled a gun and shot him in the abdomen.
