Florence Bingham Green

Florence Bingham Green was born Dec. 1, 1913, in Vicksburg.

She was the second born of six children to Willie Bingham and Roberta Robinson and the oldest great-granddaughter of the late Dennis Bingham.

She accepted Christ at an early age as a member of Rose Hill No. 2 Church, where she served as church secretary.

She attended Rose Hill School located in the Rose Hill Community.

She was employed at Carr Central High School and Jefferson Junior High School as a pastry chef until retirement.

In 1931, she married the late Philip Lamond Green. They became instant parents to her three younger brothers when her mother passed shortly before they were married.

Florence and Philip had five children of their own, sharing 57 years of marriage before his death in 1988.

In addition to church secretary, Florence enjoyed an 80 year membership in the Vicksburg Chapter No. 1 of Order of Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation, Jurisdiction of Mississippi Inc., several church societies and the Warren County Sunday School Choir.

Preceding her in death are her parents; five siblings, Charlie Bingham, David Bingham, Edward Bingham, Roosevelt Bingham and Nicie Bingham Young; son, Joseph Green; and daughter, Flora Green Moore.

She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

She was called to eternal rest Feb. 26, 2017.

She will be missed by all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Roberta Green Denham and Willie (Annie) Green, both of Vicksburg, and Mary Florence Green Jones of Detroit; nine grandchildren, Yolanda Denham (Napoleon) Johnson of Jackson, Cassandra Denham (Anthony) Terry, Katrina Moore and Lashonda Bailey, all of Vicksburg, Tyrone A. (Edith) Green of Houston, Texas, Kenneth Moore of Nashville, Tenn., Kathy A. (Michael) Washington of Atlanta, Philip Jones and Willie E. Jones of Detroit; 12 great-grandchildren, Napoleon (Madara) Johnson II of Jackson, Christopher R. (Soraya) Johnson of Frisco, Texas, Nina Sims, Thorne Sims, Marcus Hicks and Alexis Hicks, all of Vicksburg, Leila Washington and Johnathan Washington, both of Atlanta, Jeremiah Owens of Detroit, Philip Spellmon Green, Tyrone Green II and Tiffani Joyner, all of Houston; six great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Services will be Saturday, March 11, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Mount Ararat M. B. Church, with the Rev. Johnny L. Williams officiating.

Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Friends and family hour is from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
