Adult softball league
Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s adult men’s and women’s softball leagues will continue through April 17. Registration packets can be picked up at the Parks and Recreation offices at 100 Army-Navy Drive, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The registration fee is $175 per team, with a $10 fee for Warren County residents who live outside the city limits and a $20 fee for players from Sharkey, Issaquena, Claiborne, and Hinds counties.
A mandatory coaches meeting will be held on April 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Rec office. All teams must have a representative at this meeting. For more information, call Joseph Graves at 601-634-4514.
VHS basketball tryouts
Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s varsity boys basketball team will be held March 20-23 in the VHS gym. Players must have a current physical and other paperwork that is available from coaches Julius Williams or Kelvin Carter, as well as approved sneakers and clothing.
The Purks YMCA will host an American Red Cross lifeguarding class March 27 to April 7. The 30-hour class will meet from 6 to 8:45 p.m. each week night for two weeks.
People taking the class must be at least 15 years old or turning 15 no later than April 7, 2017. Candidates must also pass a strength and endurance test prior to the class, which includes a 300-yard swim using various swimming strokes and other timed drills.
The cost of the course is $150 for YMCA members and $175 for non-members. The course will be taught by veteran American Red Cross instructors Susan and Bob Athow, and Sylvia Gurtowski.

WC volleyball tryouts
Warren Central will hold tryouts for its varsity volleyball team March 22 and 23 at Warren Central Junior High gym, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Players must have a current physical, parental consent forms and concussion forms.
All forms are available in the offices of Warren Central High School, Warren Central Junior High, and the Academy of Innovation.
USM volleyball camps
Southern Miss will host three volleyball camps for youth and high school players on its Hattiesburg campus this summer.
The first camp is July 11-13 and is for individual high school players. The second is a team camp July 14-16, and the last is a youth camp July 17-19.
The youth camp is designed for middle school students grades 4-8. This camp will focus on beginner volleyball skills for individual and teams with the camp ending with a tournament.
