David Charles Cummins passed away March 20, 2017, at Merit Health River Region Hospital. He was 66.
David was born Oct. 4, 1950, to Paul Vernon and Betty M. Cummins in Risco, Mo.
He was the second of five children. He moved to Vicksburg in 1968, where he graduated from Hinds Jr. College. He was a tool and die maker and master mechanic. He worked in and around Vicksburg with Buford Construction, Thomas Trucking and S&B Construction.
He loved nature. Hunting and fishing were his passion. The earthbound fish are safer today. The shadow of deer stands will long be his memorial in the Vicksburg area.
He volunteered as assistant scoutmaster with troop 102 as both an Eagle Scout and the proud father of an Eagle Scout. He also helped out anyone who needed a hand.
He leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Sharon Cummins of Vicksburg; his son, Ben (Tiffiny) Cummins of Newark, Del.; his mother, Betty Cummins of Camden, Tenn.; brothers, Paul Cummins Jr. of Meridian, Dale Cummins of Paris, Tenn., and Steve Cummins of Marston, Mo.; his sister, Nancy Davidson of Sikeston, Mo.; a brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; many nephews, nieces and friends, all very special to him.
A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Billie Abraham officiating.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of the service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Thomas Sligh, Dr. Eugene Farris, Dr. Buenafe, Dr. Paul Pierce IV, the CVICU and fourth floor staff and cath lab staffs at River Region. You are truly great. We love you all.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sandy Redditt Cain Nursing Scholarship at Hinds Jr. College.
