Chance for chocolate: Saturday raffle to benefit Paws Rescue

One lucky winner will have the chance to celebrate Easter by feasting upon a giant chocolate bunny thanks to Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory at Vicksburg Outlet Mall.

The store is raffling off a 3-foot tall, 33-pound chocolate bunny with all proceeds going to Paws Rescue.

“The joy of seeing it on people’s face whenever they win it, the kids or the grownups, and helping out the community anyway possible,” store owner TyAnn Ellis said of why they hold the raffle.

This is the fourth year in a row that the store has raffled off a bunny for charity at Easter time and they have also raffled off a giant chocolate Santa Claus at Christmas time for the past seven years.

“Easter is a time when we like to do an organization for animals and Christmas time is different organizations all together,” Ellis said.

The bunny was made at the Rocky Mountain factor in Durango, Colorado and shipped to Vicksburg is a large box with “tons of bubble wrap” store manager Heather Martin said. The bunny has a retail value of $450.

Tickets are $1 and if you buy five you get one for free. As of Friday afternoon, they had raised $180 for Paws Rescue. Tickets will be on sale until 5 p.m. Saturday and then they will draw a winner.

Ellis said they will draw three tickets. They will then call the perspective winner on the first ticket.

If no one answers, they will leave a message and call back in five minutes. If they still receive no answer they will call the person on the second ticket drawn.
