Gator Bait Triathlon
Registration is now open for the 2017 Gator Bait at Eagle Lake Endurance Challenge. The race is scheduled for May 13 at Eagle Lake and features an Olympic distance and sprint triathlon. The Olympic distance triathlon includes a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike ride and 10K run. The sprint triathlon is a 1/3-mile swim, 14-mile bike and 5K (3.1-mile) run.
There is also a two- or three-person Olympic distance relay division and open water swim events at seven distances.
All participants must be registered with USA Triathlon. One-day registrations are available for $12. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m., and there is a mandatory pre-race meeting at 8:15. Registration is capped at 250 participants and the deadline to enter is May 10. There is no race day registration. For more information or to register online, vist vsaswim.org
Tomahawk Tromp at Tara
The fourth annual Tomahawk Tromp will be held at Tara Wildlife on May 13, beginning at 8 a.m. The 5K off-road trail run is an adventure race that includes stations where participants must perform various outdoor activities such as rifle shooting; throwing spears, tomahawks and knives; archery; swimming; and various obstacles.
The registration fee is $30 for adults and $20 for children ages 10-17. Online registration is available at tarawildlife.com.
WC basketball tryouts
Tryouts for Warren Central’s boys basketball team will be held May 15-19 in Gym A, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. each day. All participants must have a current physical and parental consent form. For more information, email coach Bruce Robinson at brobinson@vwsd.org
WC soccer tryouts
Tryouts for Warren Central’s boys soccer team will be held May 8 and 9, on the front field adjacent to Mississippi 27 at Warren Central High School, at 4 p.m. each day. The tryouts are open to players in grades 7-12.
Tryouts for the girls’ team will be held May 10 and 11, from 4 to 6 p.m., on the front field.

Learn to Swim registration
Registration for the 2017 American Red Cross Learn to Swim program will be held at City Pool, May 17-19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and May 20 from 10 a.m. until noon.
The program is for all ages, from 3 years old to adults, and the cost is $12 per student per two-week session. The sessions will run from June 5-16, June 26-July 8, July 17-28, and the times of each class vary by age. Classes fill on a first-come, first-served basis and early registration is encouraged.
Registration must be made in person. Payment can be made with cash or check made payable to the City of Vicksburg. For information, call 601-634-4516.
