Ava Marie Gilbreath Wheelock

Ava Marie Gilbreath Wheelock died Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 90.

A lifelong resident of Warren County, she retired from Sears as a bookkeeper. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, serving in the choir, teaching Sunday school and vacation bible school. She was a member of the Women’s Candlelighters Sunday school class.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Rosa Ella Taylor Cunningham; her husband, James Gilbreath; her son, Jimmy Gilbreath; two brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Wheelock of Vicksburg; her daughter, Virginia (Doug) Hall of Beverly Hills, Fla.; her stepdaughter, Gretchen Wheelock of Washington State; her son, Mike (Rhonda) Gilbreath of Brandon; her stepsons, David (Amber) Wheelock and Brent Wheelock of Vicksburg; her sister, Sue Edwards of Pearl; Joe Cunningham of Oakland; seven grandchildren, Jason Gilbreath, Trisha Gilbreath, Angel Tarpley, William Wheelock, Lauren Wheelock, Codey Wheelock and Matthew Wheelock; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 18 at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Brumfield officiating.

Interment will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Marshall Thomas, Dan McAuley, Franklin Hicks, Jerry Hardy, Vernon Martin, Greg Gastrell and David Wheelock.

Honorary pallbearers will be Max Evans, Bobby Matthews, Jack Gordon, Jack Sturgis, Morgan Spivey, the Women’s Candlelighters Sunday school class and the Senior Men’s Sunday school class at Immanuel Baptist Church.
