School board tables decisions on services

The Vicksburg Warren School District’s board of trustees held a special called meeting Tuesday morning to open bids for security services, copying/printing services and custodial services.

After receiving bids and recommendation for how to proceed, the board voted to table a final decision on all three until the regularly scheduled meeting on June 29.

It was recommended to the board that they accept a bid from Thomas & Thomas to provide security services at seven district schools, special functions and athletic events.

The board also received bids from Baker, who currently provides security services to VWSD, and VETS.

The contract, when approved by the board, will be for one year.

The board received a recommendation to approve custodial services from SSC Services at the cost of $1,369,523.64 annually. It was also recommended that they approve GCA and Cleaner Than Clean to serve as alternative vendors.

Once approved, the custodial contract will be for two years.

For printing/copying services, it was recommended that the board enter into a two-year contract with Unitech.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the board approved an application for Title I 1003 funds for South Park Elementary in the amount of $36,574. The motion passed 2-1 with Alonzo Stevens and Bryan Pratt voting in favor and Joe Loviza voting against.

The board also unanimously voted to table decisions on new hires until the meeting on June 29.
