On June 8, the Vicksburg-Warren County Humane Society installed security cameras due to people coming onto our property after hours and throwing animals out, stealing animals, damaging our property, which we have to pay to have repaired.

The cameras were in action at 4:30 p.m. the evening of June 8. Here is a chronological listing of trespassers that have no respect for animals or our property:

406-08-17, 5:36 p.m., Threw out a puppy

406-08-17, 8:20 p.m., Three people came on the property and walked around looking at animals

406-08-17, 8:52 p.m., Four people came on the property turning all of our outside lights on and left litter on the property

406-09-17, 6:54 p.m., People on  the property looking around

406-09-17, 8:14 p.m., Wife and husband came on the property and threw a dog over into one of our kennels. They told us the city police instructed them to do this. When they left they drove over a clean out pipe and broke the pipe.

406-11-17, 2:37 p.m., Two people came onto property and walked around

406-11-17, 2:52 p.m., Two people came onto property and stole flowers out of the front flower bed

406-11-17, 7:27 p.m., Threw trash out onto property

406-13-17, 8:32 p.m., Three men threw out 3 baby kittens in a crate and left them at the front door without water

406-14-17, 9:58 p.m., Male and female threw out a Chihuahua mix over into one of our kennels

406-15-17, 7:02 p.m., Male and female walked around looking at outside animals.

406-16-17, 7:19 p.m., Female drove right past our brand new huge no trespassing sign and threw a bag of trash out on the property

406-16-17, 7:20 p.m., Man in blue GMC pickup threw out 2 kittens, one adult German Shepherd dog and her 7 puppies.

We have had the cameras up and running for nine days with 17 trespassers with no respect for our property or animals.

The huge sign that was just installed lists our office hours and states that trespassers will be prosecuted — and they will be prosecuted. The staff at the Vicksburg Warren Humane Society is fed up with these people and their total lack of respect for property and the lives of animals.

We have a problem down here at the edge of the city limits. These trespassers and thieves are costing us money. We have had water hoses stolen, water hose nozzles stolen, and dogs stolen.

When people throw animals out, we have no information on that animal which is vital to the adoption process.

Several times during the course of dog thefts our kennels are damaged to the point I have to pay welders to come repair them. Now we have to pay a plumber to repair the pipe that was damaged.

Every dollar spent on after hours visitors takes money away from the animals we try so hard to help.

The Vicksburg Warren Humane Society is open to the public four days a week for a total of 28 hours, and we are open on Saturday for four hours.

Anything after that, please, stay off our property.
