City Pool to close Aug. 9

City Pool’s summer swim season will end on Wednesday, Aug. 9, pool manager Sylvia Gurtowski said.

The pool will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 9, and for family swim from 6 to 8 p.m. It will also be open the weekends of Aug. 12-13 and Aug. 18-19, from 1 to 5 p.m. each day. Other than those days, there will be no recreational swim periods at the pool.

Lap swimming, however, will still be allowed until Oct. 31 or the water temperature dips below safe limits, whichever comes first. Lap swim times are from 7 to 8:45 a.m., and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day beginning Aug. 14.

Flag football registration

Registration for the Vicksburg Warren Flag Football Association’s 2017 season is now open and will continue until Sept. 3. The season starts Sept. 10. The registration fee is $40 per person. There will also be an open registration period from Aug. 20 to 27, from 5 to 6 p.m. each day at the Vicksburg Junior High football field.

Clear Creek Ladies report

On Wednesday, the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association hosted its August Retirees Scramble. First-place winners were Jim Davis, Keith Gordon, Frank McGowan and Don Watt. Second place went to Charlotte Crist, Doug Dick, Ron Pownall and Wayne Scott. Third-place winners were Carol Roberson, Larry Cook, Mike Renfroe and Davey Simmons.

Carol Roberson and Keith Gordon hit the day’s longest drives. Closest-to-Pin awards went to Emily Bonelli, Joyce Johnson and Don Watt. Del Cox, Brad Heisler and Wayne Jones made chip-ins.

VSO registration

Registration for the Vicksburg Soccer Organization’s fall season is now open and will continue until Aug. 18.
The registration fees are $60 for the U4-6 age divisions, $80 for the U8 division, $85 for U10, and $90 for U12 and older. There is a $5 discount for registrations received before July 28.

Practice begins Sept. 4, and the first games are on Sept. 9. The season continues until Oct. 28.

Holy Trinity golf tourney

The 18th annual Church of the Holy Trinity Charity Golf Scramble is scheduled for Aug. 11 at the Vicksburg Country Club. The entry fee is $80 per person, or $320 for a four-person team. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and the tournament starts at 1 p.m.

Adult co-ed softball

Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s adult co-ed softball league will continue until Sept. 15. The registration fee is $175 per team, plus an extra $10 for residents of Warren County and $20 for each resident of Sharkey, Issaquena and Claiborne counties.

There is a mandatory coaches meeting Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the City of Vicksburg’s Parks and Recreation Department office at 100 Army Navy Drive.

Red Carpet Bowl tickets

Tickets for the 2017 Red Carpet Bowl are now on sale. Tickets are $10 in advance, or $15 at the gate, and are good for both games of the doubleheader on Aug. 18 at Warren Central’s Viking Stadium. Vicksburg will play Oxford in the first game, at 5:30 p.m., and Warren Central will play Clarksdale at 8 p.m.

Tickets are available at 601 Sports, Michel’s Music, River Outfitters, and the Vicksburg Warren School District athletic office.
