St. Al finishes sixth at cross country meet

St. Aloysius’ boys’ cross country team opened the season with a solid effort Monday, finishing sixth out of 19 teams at the Jackson Academy Invitational at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.

Greg Thomas led the Flashes by placing 28th out of 314 runners, with a time of 20 minutes, 27.9 seconds for the 5-kilometer race. Charlie Gannon was 31st, Chandler Roesch 38th, and Adam Eckstein 53rd.

Porter’s Chapel Academy also competed in the meet, and its top finisher was Bridger Jung who finished 56th place. Holden Ginn crossed the line in 59th place. The Eagles were 16th in the team standings.

In the girls’ meet, St. Al ranked 15th out of 24 teams. Iley Baldwin was its top finisher, in 49th place with a time of 19:44.6 for the 4-kilometer distance. Rachel Garmon finished 61st. A total of 307 runners competed in the girls’ meet.

Hannah Lee was PCA’s top finisher, in 127th place. The Lady Eagles were 24th in the team standings.
