Fall is in the air

With our recent taste of cool, crisp fall temperatures, thoughts turn to ways to enjoy the mildness of the fall season.
As Mississippians, we know not to be fooled by this gorgeous weather. Summer’s not done with us yet.
But while our minds are reasonably receptive to spending time outdoors, several upcoming events beckon us.
Make plans now to attend the “Come Celebrate our Rich Delta Heritage Community Night” from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the Heritage Demonstration Garden on Pemberton Avenue inside the Vicksburg National Military Park.
Sponsored by the Mississippi State University Extension Service of Warren County, Warren County Master Gardeners and the Vicksburg National Military Park, the event will include garden tours, story telling, music and games. The games included will be those indicative of the times and culture of the 1800s, organizers said.
Those who choose to attend will get to see and learn about plants that are part of our Delta heritage, and may learn tips on how to grow a better garden at home.
On Sept. 30, Vicksburg will be on display at the Eighth Annual Bricks and Spokes bicycle ride. Riders of all ages and all bicycle types are invited to cycle through beautiful downtown Vicksburg, over the Old Mississippi River Bridge and even through the Vicksburg National Military Park. Cyclists can choose from a 10-, 30-, 50- or 62-mile course.
Bike riders can register at bricksandspokes.racesonline.com or by calling the Vicksburg Main Street office at 601-634-4527.
And on Oct. 7, the 23rd annual Downtown Vicksburg Fall Festival will offer the perfect reason to spend time outdoors in beautiful Vicksburg. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the festival will feature live entertainment, plenty of childrens activities, a petting zoo, the Farmers Market Fall Market, sidewalk sales and more.
Vicksburg and Warren County offer many opportunities to enjoy the fall season in Mississippi.
