VHS soccer tryouts

Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s girls’ soccer team will be held Oct. 3-5, from 4:15 to 5 p.m. each day at Memorial Stadium.

Tryouts for the boys’ team will be held on Oct. 4, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Clear Creek Ladies report

Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association members met on Wednesday for a round of individual stroke play. Carol Roberson won Flight A, with Emily Bonelli winning Flight B and Connie Kegerreis winning Flight C. Roberson also had the low putting score of the day.

Red Carpet Bowl golf

The inaugural Red Carpet Bowl 3-Man Invitational golf tournament is set for Oct. 14 and 15 at Vicksburg Country Club. The tournament is a three-man scramble that will offer cash prizes of $1,000 for first place, $800 for second place, and $600 for third place in each flight.

There will be a Calcutta party on Oct. 14, as well as special contests during the tournament.

The entry fee is $120 per player and includes a practice round. All proceeds benefit the Red Carpet Bowl scholarship fund. For information or to register, call the VCC golf shop at 601-636-8581 or email patrick@vicksburgcc.com.

In addition to the golf tournament, the Red Carpet Bowl committee is sponsoring a raffle for four tickets to the New Orleans Saints home game on Dec. 24 against the Atlanta Falcons. Tickets for the raffle are $20, and can be purchased at Cannon Toyota or Helping Hands Pharmacy.

VHS archery tryouts

Tryouts for Vicksburg High School’s archery team will be held Oct. 4 and 5, from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. in the JROTC building. All archers must have completed a physical in order to try out. For more information, email coach Pam Piazza at pamela.piazza@vwsd.org.

Over the River Run

Registration is now open for the 29th annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run and race walk across the Old Mississippi River Bridge.

This year’s race is scheduled for Oct. 14 at 8 a.m. at the Mississippi Welcome Center on Washington Street. A 1-mile children’s fun run will follow the 5-mile events.

The entry fee for the race is $30 for the 5-mile run and walk, or $20 for children 10 and under. The registration fees will go up to $35 and $25 on race day. The entry fees include admission to the postrace party at Ameristar’s Delta Point parking lot on Washington Street.

All proceeds from the race benefit The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation.
