Tallulah Academy advances to softball state finals

Tallulah Academy won a squeaker and a blowout Monday to keep its softball state championship dreams alive.
The Lady Trojans advanced to the MAIS Class A championship series by beating Marvell Academy 4-3 and Claiborne Christian 10-4 in a pair of elimination games in Magee.
Tallulah will face Humphreys Academy in the best-of-three championship series. Game 1 will be in Tallulah and Games 2 and 3 at Humphreys, although times and dates have not yet been set.
Tallulah (15-1) rallied with runs in the sixth and seventh innings to beat Marvell in its first game Monday. Jessi Williams tied the game with an RBI double in the sixth, and then Cydney Westmoreland was hit by a pitch with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to bring in the winning run.
Mason Smith had two hits and scored two runs for Tallulah.
Game two was considerably easier. Tallulah scored three runs in the fourth inning and five in the fifth to beat Claiborne and avenge a loss earlier in the tournament.
Westmoreland went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Williams was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Faith Kivett also tripled and singled, drove in two runs and scored twice.
