A Vicksburg man faces a charge of attempted murder after his arrest Monday evening, Vicksburg police Sgt. Johnnie Edwards said.

Saul Anthony Mata, 24, 906 Wabash St., is accused of shooting at his cousin. He was being held without bail in the Issaquena County Correction Facility pending an initial appearance Wednesday in Vicksburg Municipal Court.

Edwards said the shooting occurred about 4:41 p.m. in the 700 block of Thomas Street, and was the result of an argument between Mata and his cousin that occurred Saturday. The cousin was standing outside his house when Mata walked toward him, pulled a gun and started shooting, firing several shots. The other man was able to run away and was not wounded.
