VHS soccer tryouts

Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s boys’ soccer team will be held on Oct. 4, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Red Carpet Bowl golf

The inaugural Red Carpet Bowl 3-Man Invitational golf tournament is scheduled for Oct. 14-15 at Vicksburg Country Club. The tournament is a three-man scramble that will offer cash prizes of $1,000 for first place, $800 for second place, and $600 for third place in each flight.

The event will begin with a shotgun start at noon on Oct. 14 and 10 a.m. on Oct. 15. The entry fee is $120 per player and includes a practice round. All proceeds benefit the Red Carpet Bowl scholarship fund. For information or to register, call the VCC golf shop at 601-636-8581 or email patrick@vicksburgcc.com.

In addition to the golf tournament, the Red Carpet Bowl committee is sponsoring a raffle for four tickets to the New Orleans Saints’ home game on Dec. 24 against the Atlanta Falcons. Tickets for the raffle are $20, and can be purchased at Cannon Toyota or Helping Hands Pharmacy.

VHS archery tryouts

Tryouts for Vicksburg High School’s archery team will be held Oct. 4 and 5, from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. in the JROTC building. All archers must have completed a physical in order to try out. For more information, e-mail Vicksburg High archery coach Pam Piazza at pamela.piazza@vwsd.org.

Over the River Run

Registration is open for the 29th annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run and race walk across the Old Mississippi River Bridge. This year’s race is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14 at 8 a.m. at the Mississippi Welcome Center on Washington Street. A 1-mile children’s fun run will follow the 5-mile events.

The entry fee for the race is $25 for the 5-mile run and walk, or $15 for children 10 and under. There is also a family rate of $75 for up to five family members living at the same address. All proceeds from the race benefit The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation.

Hinds CC golf tourney
Hinds Community College’s Warren-Claiborne County Alumni Chapter will host the Clyde Donnell and Othel Mendrop Memorial Golf Tournament Oct. 18 at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina.

The four-person scramble will begin at 1 p.m. Registration begins at 12:30. The registration fee is $75 per player and includes cart, hamburger dinner and refreshments. Hole sponsorships are available for $100, and team sponsorships for $300.
