The Southern Cultural Heritage Center is planning for a spooky October with three events making up their festive A Nightmare on Crawford Street program.
The events will kick off Thursday, Oct. 19, with a fright night movie night featuring a classic horror film for a adults and a movie for kids.
“What we are going to be doing is showing a classic horror movie in the courtyard for adults and we have the kids covered so nobody has to worry about getting a baby sitter,” Stacey Mahoney, executive director of SCHC, said. “We will have a movie going for the kids inside the academy building at the same time.”
The event will start at 6:30 p.m. and costs $7 for adults and $3 for kids.
The festivities will continue the night of Friday, Oct. 27, with a Monster Bash starting at 8 p.m. Mahoney said there will be a DJ, dancing, a costume contest and signature cocktails available at a cash bar. The event costs $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
“Maintaining these historic buildings we are always raising money so we’re just trying to raise money in a creative, fun way so we can all have some fun,” Mahoney said. “We’re trying to raise money, but we are also in the business of putting on events for the community so these are some events we felt like would be enjoyed by the community.”
The final event in the A Nightmare of Crawford Street program is the Haunted Halloween Ghost Hunt Oct. 28. Ghost hunter from the Mississippi Paranormal Society will be on hand and leading investigation through three of the buildings at the SCHC.
The event will start at 7 p.m. with a meet and greet with the ghost hunters where participants can learn about the equipment they will be using in the hunt. It will last until 2 a.m. as participants are split into three groups and work their wy through all three buildings. Tickets are limited and cost $50 per person.
“They have already come and found plenty,” Mahoney said. “It will be just what happens that night. There is definitely activity here.”
Snacks will be provided at the event and participants are encouraged to wear costumes, as there will be a costume contest during the event. All money raised from the three events will go to the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation.
