Tallulah Academy is one win away from its first MAIS softball state championship.
Jessi Williams went 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored, while Aidan Collins and Laurel Holmes each drove in two runs to lead the Lady Trojans to a 6-2 victory over Humphreys Academy Wednesday in Game 1 of the MAIS Class A fast-pitch championship series.
Cydney Westmoreland allowed two runs, neither earned, in a complete-game victory in the circle. She struck out four, walked none, and allowed only two hits.
Collins and Holmes each had an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning as Tallulah (16-1) scored three times to take a 3-1 lead.
It never trailed again.
Collins delivered another RBI single in the third inning and Holmes drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1. The Lady Trojans added an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth for insurance.
Tallulah can win the Class A title with one more win over Humphreys Academy. Game 2 of the best-of-three series is Saturday at noon in Belzoni. If a Game 3 is needed, it will be played immediately afterwward.
